Seeing is Becoming: various artists 

Four stars Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art Often at first glance, in looking at a particularly challenging piece of art, nothing appears to make immediate rational sense. Curator Jay Jordan describes this as the "What the fuck?" moment. There are certainly a number of such moments to be had in this show, chief among them Dmitry Strakovsky's video "Top Ten Asian Brands." In said video Strakovsky, who looks like a younger version of Mr. Clean, chants out said brand names like a Buddhist monk with a mantra. At the April 2 opening, he was on hand to perform this live. His performance might raise questions in your mind about the appropriateness of mixing eastern forms of worship with consumerism, or it might make you crave something more conventional. Shizu Saldamando's "Sandra and Adrian Looking at Art," might just fit the latter craving, though there's hardly anything conventional about representational portraiture using blue ballpoint as a medium - flawlessly - on canvas. You might wonder at the relationship of the two depicted subjects, and if they're having a moment such as that described above, and how either (or neither) of them resemble you.
