Dale Nally's oil on canvas triptych "Contact Series 19," with its abstract minimalism and textured gray surfaces, might be mistaken from a distance for three adjoining slabs of concrete. No surprise, then, that Nally's paintings seem right at home on ARTBOX's sturdy walls. Dante Ventresca's "Marking Project" is a series of whirling and colorful abstractions, in mixed media on paper, that provides a strong contrast to Nally's work. Jennifer Complo McNutt also works on paper but with charcoal and her abstract designs bristle with muscular energy. Her pièce de résistance, however, involves 5,000 pairs of scissors ranging from the cuticle variety to gardening shears. Confiscated at the Pittsburgh airport post-Sept. 11, these scissors fueled "The Domestic Terrorist" project. McNutt, along with collaborator Mike Jester, created a 10-foot-high curtain with these scissors (a curtain that currently divides ARTBOX in two). Please appreciate it from a distance, lest it cut you. The closing reception for this show is on March 19, 5:30-9 p.m. Through March 29; 317-955-2450, www.ARTBOXINDY.com.
