Review: The Lobster, in brief

Deeply weird

Just a few words here – I'll be doing a feature length review of this film in next week's issue. If you're an adventurous filmgoer, you may appreciate Yorgos Lanthimos' bizarre, but deeply human tale of a near-future world that values couples above all else. David (Colin Farrell at his best) has been left by his wife. Per society rules, he has 45 days to pair up with a new love – otherwise he'll be turned into the animal of his choice and released into the wild. There is also an organized resistance to the culture. Wait until you hear their rules! I've never seen anything quite like this funny, touching and freaky movie. Much more about it next week.
