Here We Go Magic
A Different Ship, cassette release
Joyful Noise

Here We Go Magic, an indie band from Brooklyn, gets their latest album A Different Ship released on limited edition blue cassettes that include an mp3 download code. Only 500 copies were printed and manufactured and include lyrics of all the songs inside the j-card. From the the opening song "Intro" to the album closer "A Different Ship," Here We Go Magic takes us on a journey through their mix of high fidelity atmospheric electronics that pulse and loop along with psychedelic inspired vocal melodies. Side A fits five of the album's songs and includes "Intro," "Hard To Be Close," "Alone But Moving," "I Believe In Action" and "Over The Ocean."

Side B fits the remaining four songs and includes "Made To Be Old," "How Do I Know," "Miracle Of Mary," and "A Different Ship." Hearing these songs on a cassette give them a beefier depth than listening to them in mp3 format, especially among the more upbeat grooves. The synths and guitars sparkle while the bass guitar seems to jump right out of the speakers. The drums remain fixed and tight throughout the production and showcase the band's studio growth from band leader, Luke Temple's four-track roots. Also evident on the cassette version is the soulful lead and backing vocals that somehow balance both relaxation and anxiety in their respective deliveries. The band recently picked up a famous hitchhiker, filmmaker John Waters, on their recent tour driving along highway 70, somewhere in Ohio. This cassette album would make a great soundtrack tribute to that one in a million chance occurrence.

  • Review: No Coast, 'Rock And Roll All Night (Yeah Right)'

This band has redefined the topographical details of Kokomo, Ind. that exist inside of my mind. Contrary to the name they've chosen (and certain facts), as I spin this record and close my eyes I can see a beach full of surfboards, swimsuits and boomboxes blasting rock and roll.
