Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre
Directed by Eddie Curry
A sparkling production of the award-winning musical that remains fresh with a set of mantras we still very much need live vibrantly, love openly, share abundantly. Iris Lieberman is an authoritatively huggable Dolly who tells you straight out what she intends for herself but along the way she's equally a change-agent benefiting others, including Horace Vandergelder, delightfully portrayed by Mark Goetzinger. Eddie Curry's staging and Ron Morgan's choreography rise to and uplift the challenges of swift character and scenic developments. The big production numbers take off even on this tiny stage, especially the waiters at the Harmonia Gardens. An exuberant cast of 15 gives the impression of a multitude. The orchestra is fine. Michael Layton's scenic design enchants with its music box theme and upper and lower levels. You'll exit laughing, and hopefully be touched by Dolly's positive attitude and Horace's seemingly unlikely transformation. Through May 2. Call 317-872-9664. More at www.beefandboards.com.
