Rembrandt’s Journey: Painter Draftsman Etcher, the blockbuster exhibit now on view at the Art Institute of Chicago, has been called one of the most important shows in a generation by no less than the Chicago Tribune. This is the first American exhibition of the Dutch master’s work to explore the full range of his output as a printmaker, particularly as etcher, in the context of his paintings and drawings. With more than 200 works representing all periods of his long career — including 20 paintings, 30 drawings, 150 prints and seven copper plates — the exhibition draws on public and private collections from around the world.
The exhibit continues through May 9. Dated, timed tickets are required and advance tickets are strongly recommended. Tickets are available by calling 312-930-4040; on the Web at www.artic.edu; and at the Art Institute. Prices are $12 Monday-Thursday, and $15 Friday-Sunday. Ticket price includes admission to the museum. Hotel packages are available at 15 downtown Chicago hotels. Call 1-877-CHICAGO.
