Three and a half stars (R)
Adam Sandler, Don Cheadle
Dentist Alan Johnson (Cheadle) runs into his old college roommate, Charlie Fineman (Sandler, wearing Bob Dylan’s hair), who lost his wife and daughters in the Sept. 11 attacks and has blocked out all memories of his loved ones. The two form a tenuous new bond and Alan finds himself increasingly invested in the life of his damaged friend. Some rocky spots are not enough to derail this moving and cautiously hopeful film. 128 minutes.
DVD INFO: Two separately packaged DVDs are available. One preserves the film in the anamorphic widescreen format, while the other hacks off nearly a third of the feature for the fullscreen (aka pan & scan) version. Shop carefully. Both versions include a pair of featurettes."
