Pagenaud's on the pole

Simon Pagenaud claimed his second pole position of the season after winning the Firestone Fast Six this afternoon at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Pagenaud claimed the pole with a time of 1:08.6868.

Charlie Kimball will make his career best start in second with a time of 1:08.9816. Graham Rahal will start third with a time of 1:09.1816. James Hinchcliffe will make his best start of the season starting forth with a time of 1:08.6868. Joesef Newgarden takes fifth at 1:09.4316. Jack Hawksworth also taking a season best sixth place with a time of 1:09.5141.

In what was a surprising turn of events during qualifying, Pagenaud was the only driver representing Team Penske in the Fast Six. Team Andretti continued with the struggles they’ve been seeing this weekend. Alexander Rossi is starting in the best position for Andretti, qualifying 14th.


Max Chilton leads all the rookies qualifying in 13th with a time of 1:09.3289 out of Elimination Round 1, Group 1.

Qualifying for the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis took place in the elimination style. Round 1 started in two groups. The top six in the each groups advance to Elimination Round 2. The remaining drivers were added to the starting grid in order based on their fastest times in round. In Elimination Round 2, the 12 drivers have their times reset and start off fresh. The top six times in Round 2 advance to the Firestone Fast Six. The remaining drivers are added to the grid in order based on their Round 2 times. Positions 1-6 are sorted out by the top six times in the Firestone Fast Six.

Group 1 saw a top six of Hawkworth (1:09.1601) Scott Dixon (1:09.2005) Kimball (1:09.2451) Sebastien Bourdais (1:09.2463), Mikhail Aleshin (1:09.2537), Juan Pablo Montoya 1:09.3260. The top six in group 2 were Will Power (1:08.6746), Pagenaud (1:08.7556,) Newgarden (1:09.0106), Hinchcliffe (1:09.0244) Rahal (1:09.0514), and Tony Kanaan 1:09.0845.

In Round 2 the top six finishers were Pagenaud (1:08.796), Rahal (1:08.9684), Hichcliffe (1:09.0086), Kimball (1:09.0607), Hawksworth (1:09.0611), and Newgarden (1:09.1388).

Two drivers set track records in the qualifying rounds. Jack Hawksworth initially set the record with a time of 1:09.1601. Not to be outdone, Will Power set the new track record with a time of 1:08.6746.

The Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis takes place tomorrow with the green flag scheduled to drop at 3:50pm.
