Q&A with Samantha Cross

Samantha Cross is dire

Samantha Cross is director of marketing and sponsorship for Clowes Memorial Hall of Butler University. She is now in the midst of preparing for the 2004/2005 Performing Arts Series, which will include Emmy Lou Harris and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band from New Orleans. Cross is also one of two people in Crackhead Patty; they are currently learning new material for upcoming gigs. You can reach her at scross1@butler.edu.

Q: What are your reading now?

A: In the bathroom: Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman. On vacation, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind by Chuck Barris. Before bed, the third Harry Potter book.

Q: What do you like about the Indianapolis arts scene? A: I like the fact people seem to be supporting the Indianapolis arts scene not only with their attendance but with their money. I visit friends and they play local independent music on their stereos and have local artwork hanging in their homes. That, to me, is progress.

Q: What don’t you like?

A: Negativity ... I struggle with it myself.

Q: What inspires you?

A: Generosity and clean houses

Q: Drug of choice? A: Venti skim milk lattes.

Q: Favorite politician?

A: Bill Clinton. Locally I think Julia Carson is cool and present. I see her at various events, large and small ... she’s connected.

Q: What’s the hardest thing about what you do?

A: I’m not the only one that juggles numerous projects ... I think many of us struggle to maintain quality ... quality with final projects and quality relationships.

Q: Favorite commercial?

A: I just noticed that State Farm insurance is still using the jingle Barry Manilow wrote years ago “... and like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.” That’s good stuff.

Q: Three people you’d invite to dinner?

A: My dad and both grandfathers. They’re all gone and I’d like to have a pint of Guinness with them.

Q: Can love be pornographic?

A: Love can be anything if it’s real.
