On Sunday, December 13th at 3:00 pm, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra presents for the 27th consecutive season Handel's Messiah, the complete oratorio, at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church. ICO music director Matthew Kraemer will conduct the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, four vocal soloists and choirs from the Christian Theological Seminary, the Encore Vocal Arts and Tabernacle Church. The soloists are Sari Gruber, soprano; Angela Young Smucker, mezzo-soprano, tenor Derek Chester and bass Michael Dean.

"Handel's Messiah is at the heart of the chamber orchestra repertoire being originally scored for about 23 instruments," said ICO executive director Elaine Eckhart. "The Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra is proud to present this time-honored masterwork as its holiday offering."

On Monday, December 14th at 7:30 pm, join the ICO for the Messiah Sing-Along for an opportunity to sing favored selections from Handel's Messiah at the Indiana Landmarks Center. The Sing-Along concert will consist of selected movements, airs, and choruses from the first section, and the ever popular Hallelujah Chorus which concludes the second section. The Sing-Along will give local singers the opportunity to participate in a performance with professional soloists and a professional orchestra. Audience members can bring their own music, download a score from, or borrow or purchase a score at the performance.

Eckhart said, "Maestro Kraemer, a violinist himself, encouraged the chorus to sing like violins and the violins to play like a choir; there is wonderful interplay between chorus and orchestra in this intricate work."

If you are interested in learning more, join the ICO and Christian Theological Seminary for a pre-concert lecture by Hebrew bible scholar Dr. Richard H. Lowery, affiliate professor at CTS and Dr. Matthew Myer Boulton, CTS president and professor of theology. The pre-concert lecture begins at 2:15 in the church parlor at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church on Sunday afternoon, and at 6:45 pm in the Cook Theater at the IndianaLandmarksCenter on Monday evening. At both performances, there will be a collection of non-perishable food items to benefit the Mid-North Food Pantry.
