Poltergeist: 25th Anniversary Edition

Four stars (R)

Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams

A wildly-imaginative, well-acted, genuinely scary movie. The good news is that the great 1982 suburban ghost story has been digitally restored and remastered. The bad news is that it’s sorely lacking in bonus materials. Why is such a fine movie getting such shabby treatment? Perhaps due to nagging questions over how much of the film was really directed by Tobe Hooper and how much Steven Spielberg helped. Dunno, I’m just guessing. 114 minutes.

DVD INFO: The sole extra is a two-part featurette called “They’re Here: The Real World of Poltergeists” that’s not about the movie. Sheesh.
