Free Energy, with a real high-fidelity, guitar-heavy and totally unironic AM-rock sound reminds us of Tom Petty and great summers. The band is a quintet that includes Scott Wells, Paul Sprangers, Geoff Bucknam, Nicholas Shuminsky, and Evan Wells. Currently DFA is giving away a free track by the band, 'Dream City', which is taken from the bands forthcoming album. It's the first publicly available material by Free Energy.
Ami Saraiya & The Outcome When Ami Saraiya and her band, The Outcome, take the stage and create drama with a dark atmosphere in a worldly staging of folk punk and jazz cabaret. And amongst the accordion, the violin and the guitars, it's Ami's sultry voice that recalls Piaf and Holiday which takes the spotlight. They also entertain their audience with the song-stories—often saturnine, often employing magical realism. all-ages Philly rockers Free Energy have energy to spare, so they're giving it away. This former buzz band-turned-actually-talented has yet to hit their major breakthrough, but we expect it any day now. Grab their single “Bang Pop”from debut Stuck on Nothing, and head out to DO317's First Friday show for the free-est energy you'll see this weekend. They've got a new album – Love Sign – and do our favorite thing: play rock music that also functions like dance music. Go if you like: Weezer, The Cars, Mates of State.
