Orkestra Projekt - Perspektive Time

Earth House, Oct. 17

As a fan of the Orkestra Projekt, I've waited patiently for a really solid performance from them for almost a year. My patience was rewarded Saturday with their concert at the Earth House Collective. Featuring a concert of string quartet music written by still living composers, the quartet featuring Veronique Mathieu , Jose Valencia,

Megan Pokorney and Paul Young played with a sound that could be described as both delicate and powerful. The two Avro Pärt pieces made time seem to stand still for a brief, beautiful moment. Glass's String Quartet No. 3 (Mishima) seemed to flow effortlessly. Breaking up the evening of gentle music was Rzewski's Les Moutons de Panurge,

in which the audience was encouraged to make percussive noises while the musicians played independently of each other. The night ended with a loose playing of Adams' John's Book of Alleged Dances, a piece that demands the ensemble be rhythmically tight.
