Observantia: Paintings, Drawings and Ceramics by Grace Benedict & Linda LaMar

Four stars

Indianapolis Art Center

Lafayette artists Grace Benedict and Linda LaMar liven the Indianapolis Art Center’s walls with a combination of intricate and elegant colored pencil drawings and intriguing mixed media pieces. Benedict’s “Three Graces” captures three delicately carved statues in a lush green setting. Probably sitting atop a fountain in the park, the underside of the arms and faces of the statues delicately reflect the pooling water below. Pencil marks blend flawlessly together to create a rich canvas defying the artist’s primitive materials. LeMar’s mixed media works are organic and inspired — truly unique works. “I Dreamed I Held You In My Arms” features a gritty human face, eyes wary and transfixed on the viewer. The face is surrounded and consumed by lush greenery and tropical flowers, as the entire bust seems to float amidst milky-white clay pedals. Through July 22; 317-255-2464.
