R. C. Legacy

Three stars

Low-key, slow but energetic acoustic-guitar-driven sketches recorded in ’06-’07 by members of the band Vollmar, with Vollmar bassist David Grant taking guitar and vocals, and the brothers Vollmar backing up on bass (Justin) and just a hint of drums (Nathan). The quirks make it interesting — tripping repetition of an unlikely line, a Latin-inflected riff on the dreamy and excellent “Talks To Dust,” quiet rustling percussion. Pleasant though not exceptionally memorable. Self-released batch of 500 in clever cardboard packaging. An updated lineup of the band is stationed somewhere around Indianapolis and Bloomington.

SOUNDS LIKE: Mark Kozelek, cardboard
