NoSpace by Tré Reising at Big Car Gallery, through Jan. 30.

Big Car Gallery

With three quarts of house paint and two bundles of yarn, Tré Reising set out to transform the 2-D walls of Big Car by giving them the illusion of containing 3-D space. Reising is a recent Herron grad whose medium is sculpture so his goal is understandable. Both the strings as well as the paint are in basic reds, yellow, blues, and greens - the colors of playground equipment and Astroturf. In creating the illusion of space with strings of yarn - glued to the wall - converging at non-right angles, he recalls the playground sets that he enjoyed as a child. Interspersed on the walls between the lines of yarn are red circles, a green trapezoid, and various abstract doodlings. It can get crowded in the Big Car Gallery at times - and loud, with the various musical acts playing there - and by creating the illusion of more space within this space in a playful fashion, Reising creates a perfect mind-expanding space for a night out in Fountain Square.
