Wednesday night's visit to the Indiana State Fair was all about the Happy Together Tour! And as much as I enjoy the whole show I was in it for Susan Cowsill.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Susan. The profile of her that I wrote in 2006 was the first piece that I had published in NUVO and the bit of first writing I'd ever been paid for - you can read it here. I've loved seeing Susan's solo shows and hearing her perform with her band over the years.

This is was my inaugural Cowsills show, but it clearly wasn't the first for most of the crowd - I swear that half of the people in the audience were at the band's 1968 State Fair show.

The Happy Together Tour 2015 features six acts: The Turtles featuring Flo & Eddie, The Buckinghams, The Association, The Cowsills, The Grass Roots, and Mark Lindsay. The show is full of hits - the songs you don't even realized you know until you start singing along. The concert is fast-paced and fun and I had a blast.

The crowd was huge - the largest I've ever seen at the Free Stage - and diverse.

For the finale, all of the bands played a snippet of one of their music there was a "Happy Together" sing-along.

The Cowsills were generous enough to sign things and pose for photographs after the show.

On the walk back to my car I ran into gobs of people on a Garrison Keillor high from his show at the Coliseum. All and all it was a happy night at the Fair.

It was after 11:00 PM before I started looking for a farmer for the daily selfie photo, so I cleverly decided that a selfie with a farm animal would suffice. I snapped this photo about a nanosecond before the cow started nibbling on my hair. Luckily he didn't eat any - I couldn't wait to get home to wash the cow breath out of my hair.

Thursday picks:
