Ethics panel abandoned

Ethics panel abandoned
Efforts to form an ethics panel comprised of members of the House of Representatives were abandoned yesterday as it became clear no member of Congress could qualify for the strict ethical guidelines necessary for panel membership. The panel was to study suspicious travel activities and other potential ethics violations of House Leader Tom DeLay. One representative, who requested anonymity, stated, "I guess we're all a bunch of crooks after all." Some members of Congress held hope that the next class of elected officials might yield potential ethics panel participants but they were soundly scorned and laughed at by their colleagues.
