Music news 12/20/06 

• Live Nation has put Verizon Wireless Music Center in Noblesville up for sale. The 203-acre site happens to be sitting on prime land for new commercial development. The sale to a developer could easily be the end of concerts in the cornfield.

• Prince William and Prince Harry are staging a massive pop concert to celebrate the 46th birthday of the late Princess Diana. The concert will be held July 1, 2007. Duran Duran and Elton John have already been confirmed to perform.

• Phish frontman Trey Anastasio has been arrested on drug charges. He was charged with driving under the influence of drugs. He was in possession of anti-anxiety drugs and prescription painkillers.

• Arcade Fire has announced the name of their new LP. Look for Neon Bible in stores in March.

• Dolores O’Riordan, former lead singer of the Cranberries, has inked a deal with Sanctuary Records. Her first solo record should be on shelves by May 8.

• The Killers have been asked to write the next theme song in the James Bond series, Risico.

NME, the great European music publication, has announced their intentions of promoting their first United States NME tour. The Kaiser Chiefs will headline the event.

• Bob Dylan’s management is attempting to delay and/or stop the release of the upcoming Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgewick biopic. A Bob Dylan-like character, Danny Quin, plays harmonica and is a singer. Many sources report that Quin is a dead-on Dylan impression. The film apparently suggests that Dylan is responsible for Sedgwick’s suicide.

• Live, two-song auditions for the inaugural University of Indianapolis Battle of the Bands will take place Jan. 13-14 and 21. Registration is due by Monday, Jan. 1, along with a $25 entry fee. All genres of music are welcome, but at least half the members of each band must be current, full-time high school or college students. The final concert, to be held Feb. 17 in the Ransburg Auditorium in Esch Hall, will award the winning band a recording package from Big Walnut Studios.
