Monty Python's Spamalot

Five stars

Broadway Across America in Indianapolis; Murat Theatre; May 8-13

Splendid timing and perky, laugh-a-minute comedy with exciting choreography danced to perfection and over-the-top graphics perfectly paired with events on stage, plus vigorous performers on top of the script at every turn: These are a few of Spamalot’s marvelous virtues. They make us think we’ve done something good to deserve a touring show with so much wit, wisdom and WOW factor. Nothing is sacred, not even a cow dropped from a parapet with perfect trajectory. Everything, everyone, everywhere at every turn is skewered. It’s a kaleidoscope of every other musical. Seminal historic events and personalities surface in risqué, subtle and rapid profusion, tumbling toward a closure not to be revealed. Indianapolis’ own Anthony Holds plays a fetching Sir Galahad — “Dennis, anyone?” Conductor Ben Whitely leads a fine touring and pickup orchestra. The cast as a whole makes you think it’s the first time they’ve done the show — the excitement is that up front
