Monks and mandalas 

Tibetan monks will be creating a Sand Mandala of Compassion at IUPUI April 19-25 in University College Room 115. On April 19 at 9 a.m., there will be an Opening Ceremony. Public viewings will also be open from 2-4:30 and 7:30-9 p.m. The public will also be invited to observe the monks on Friday from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 1:30-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.; Sunday from 12-3 p.m.; Monday from 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-9 p.m.; and Tuesday from 3-9 p.m. There will be a Closing Ceremony Wednesday, April 25 at 3 p.m. All these sessions are free to the public.

The monks will also participate in a Cultural Pageant of Tibet on April 21 at 7 p.m. at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th St. This gathering will feature harmonic overtone chanting, traditional instruments, richly brocaded costumes, sacred dances, a Yak Dance, monastic debates and a Tibet slide show.
