The Glendale Branch of the Indianapolis Marion County Library, as well as Glendale Mall, will showcase the 18th annual Meet the Artists, an exhibit of artwork in various mediums and genres that provides a forum for prominent local African-American artists to display their work. This year’s artists include Brett Allen, Kevin T. Johnson, Gale Beasley, Demarcus A. Lange, Rodney Walker, Terry Clark, Carol White, Patricia Gaines-Mills, Nina L. McCoy, Taeven Barnes, Ronne Stone, Agatha Onye Ndika, William Stephens and D. Delreverda-Jennings. A special exhibit of African artifacts will be presented by artist Kelly Trimble, owner of Viafrika cultural and contemporary African art.
Keith Island created this year’s featured print, which will be for sale during the Meet the Artists Gala Reception Feb. 4, 5-10 p.m. Visitors can view the artwork and meet the artists. Other activities will include educator Leroy Robinson leading a Youth Speakers Forum on the topic “Education Does Matter”; performances by the gospel group Unique Sounds of Praise and the R&B band Exquisitely Yours, led by Goldie; a craft workshop; youth poetry; youth art exhibit; and a fashion show. Local authors Nedra Shivers, Sharon Wells and Beverly Thurman and New York author Gerald K. Malcom will hold booksignings.
Also going on Feb. 4 from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. is the Black Vendors Market, featuring over 30 vendors from Indiana and the Midwest.
