John McKnight is internationally recognized for his critique of the ways in which social service and other organizations "problemize" people. In his view, seeing "needs" instead of "capacities" cripples those being helped and the communities where they live. He is also considered a master storyteller. McKnight will speak April 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the Broadway United Methodist Church, 609 E. 29th St., in a program titled "An Evening with John McKnight & Ivan Illich: A Posthumous Conversation to End Helping." This event is free and open to the public. Call 317-924-4207 for information.
