"Lymelife" quick movie review

Ensemble piece about suburban ennui and the trials of coming-of-age, reminiscent of The Ice Storm and American Beauty, though not as focused. Written by the Martini brothers, Stephen and first-time director Derick, the story is set on Long Island in the late '70s. Rory Culkin glowers and suffers the indignities of teenhood effectively (his brother Kieran plays his brother in the movie) and Emma Roberts is fine as the object of his affection. On the adult side, Alec Baldwin, Jill Hennessy, Timothy Hutton and Cynthia Nixon are just as good as you'd expect them to be. Shaky in spots, but rewarding overall. 95 minutes.
