Alonzo King's LINES Ballet and the Shaolin Monks of China will perform together at Clowes Hall Feb. 6, 8 p.m., synthesizing Eastern and Western classical forms. The collaboration integrates two distinct classical traditions of movement - ballet and martial arts - by fusing their unique elements at a very deep level. As classical arts of movement, ballet and Chinese martial arts share both their form - a precise, deliberate series of movements - and the concept that the shape of bodies in motion can be meaningful, even spiritual.
Tickets to the performance are $25, $30 and $35 (students/seniors: $20, $24, $28). Call 317-940-6444 or go to www.cloweshall.org for reservations.
A pre-performance discussion with Derek Reid, assistant professor of dance, and Tong Wang, assistant professor of dance at Butler University's Jordan College of Fine Arts, will be offered at 7:15 p.m. in the Krannert Room and is free with your paid ticket to the event.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the music of Butler University School of Music assistant professor of music Dr. Rusty Jones on guitar with Lara Langeneckert on flute.
