"Land of the Lost" on DVD

You know your sci-fi/action film needs a serious do-over when your key scenes, which include T-Rexes, baron wastelands, green lizard people and time warps, are all topped by two scenes in the real world involving Will Ferrell and Matt Lauer. Universal's Land of the Lost takes the cult 1970s TV show and actually manages to dumb it down. When Marshall (Ferrell), Will (Danny McBride), and Holly (Anna Friel), go through a time warp while touring a cave, they become trapped in a strange prehistoric world. The main problem with the film is its conformity to using juvenile cartoon stereotypes. Ferrell's arrogantly stupid and bumbling scientist knows more about show tunes and less about science. He does things like pour dino-pee on himself to hide his scent from a T-Rex, or dances (and eventually sings) his way through a pterodactyl nest to get an important item. 102 minutes. DVD INFO: Includes a commentary track, deleted scenes and featurettes.
