The Butler Theatre Department kicks off its season with a collaborative project based on ancient and modern source material. Directed and devised by John Green and Diane Timmerman, Lamentations is a multisensory journey that will carry audience members through different spaces in Lilly Hall. It’s a one-of-a-kind work of interactive performance art that combines the plays Tongues by Sam Shepard and A Piece of Monologue by Samuel Beckett with Jeremiah the Prophet’s Book of Lamentations, a series of five poems dealing with the nature of grief.

Ancient voices converse with modern tongues in a way that sheds new light on the meaning of loss. The production utilizes original dance, music and vocal work.

Performances are Oct. 3-6 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 6-7 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10, $5 for students. For information, call 317-940-9247 or go to www.butlertheatre.edu.
