Author Thom Steinbeck, Kurt Vonnegut's son Mark Vonnegut and other experts will gather at the Indiana War Memorial to discuss the mental health of our war veterans this Veteran's Day. The event aims to provoke thought and conversation about mental health, our veterans, and healing through humanities. In conjunction with community partners, The Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library is hosting: a fitting emcee for a necessary symposium. Vonnegut, a veteran, believed this day should be revered (for reasons other than it's his birthday). In Breakfast of Champions, he writes, "So I will throw Veterans’ Day over my shoulder. Armistice Day I will keep. I don’t want to throw away any sacred things."
