This past Saturday, one of the biggest breaks and drum & bass lineups hit Indy, breaking records and playing hosts to a party for what was reportedly a record crowd.
When I pulled up to the Therapy Nightclub, I was little surprised: Parking spots were filled to the max and there was a line outside the club. This was, according to the promoter of the event, Konkrete Jungle Indianapolis, the biggest turnout Therapy has seen.
I walked in to DJ Keith MacKenzie on the decks, and the place was totally popping. DJ Icey, who followed MacKenzie, opened his set with a total crowd pleaser -- Deadmau5's "The Reward Is More Cheese" -- then spun out an hour and a half of electro house and breaks club bangers. During Icey's set, enthusiastic listeners danced amidst bright, flickering lights. A breaks circle (that's break dancing, of course) even developed near the middle of the floor. Local DJs James B and Defi rounded out the huge lineup and night on the breaks/club side with an electro house mix.
This show came at a good time for Therapy, which is surrounded by rubble and mounds of earth following the destruction of the Market Street ramp to I-65/70. The good news is the city and construction crew have been working quickly, and once they're done, the club will sit on a beautiful new road that will connect the near Eastside to downtown.
