NUVO Staff Alonzo King's LINES Ballet will pres


Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet will present its first performance in Indiana Feb. 17, 8 p.m. at Clowes Memorial Hall on the campus of Butler University.

Based in San Francisco since 1982, LINES Ballet is 23 years old. In that time, the company has received international recognition for its choreographic innovation, unusual collaborations and brilliant dancers. In 1994, the company launched a major initiative to expand the involvement of world-renowned artists, such as jazz saxophonist Pharaoh Sanders, Sweet Honey in the Rock and Oud master Hamza El Din, in the creation of new works.

A pre-performance talk with Larry Attaway, director, Jordan Academy of Dance, Butler University, will be held at 7:15 p.m. in the Krannert Room of Clowes.

Tickets are $25-$35 with discounts for students, seniors and groups.

The night before the performance, Feb. 16, Alonzo King, dancer, choreographer and founder of LINES, will present “Cross Cultural Collaboration” at 7:30 p.m. The lecture will take place in Clowes, and is free.
