Although the guys in Denver-based rock band Kinetix claim Colorado as their home, they've caught the attention of event organizers across the county. Earlier this summer the band performed to sweaty (yet enthusiastic) crowds at distinguished music festivals across the Midwest, including Bella Vida (Clarks Grove, Minn.), Summer Camp (Chillicothe, Ill.), Wakarusa (Ozark, Ark.), and Forecastle (Louisville, Ky.).
Wednesday, Sept. 8, Kinetix will visit Indianapolis as the headliner of the River City Music Festival pre-party at Birdy’s. Kinetix is touring in support of their 2010 release Let Me In, streaming below. Later this month, they’ll commence an official fall tour with Beautiful Girls and Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad that kicks off in Chicago. The bands will travel together as far northwest as Vancouver and close the tour at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles. See a complete list of upcoming dates here.
If a ridiculously heavy touring schedule doesn’t speak to the band’s perseverance, their music certainly does. The Kinetix sound can't be easily categorized. It's infused with fervent vocals too perky to be hard rock and decorated with funky bass lines too hip to be pop. They avoid being pigeon-holed as a jam band by carefully structuring their work. And they achieve an inexplicable radiating energy which sends subliminal messages to feet and bodies.
A ten dollar cover charge may seem high (especially for a mid-week show at a sub-par venue), but I speak from personal experience when I guarantee the show will be worth your money. Furthermore, Indy locals Waldemere Revival (who have an equally impressive and busy touring schedule) will open the evening.
