Juan Angel Chavez, Leticia Bajuyo, Ryan Mulligan: "3x3" visual art review

Three regional curators from various Midwestern cities were invited to choose one artist each to exhibit in this show that barely adds up to the sum of its parts. Leticia Bajuyo's "Entropy" takes up her exhibition space with an approximation of a black hole constructed out of CDs and DVDs on a wood frame. The play of light on the discs is eye-catching, at least, and the exhibit's interesting in terms of creative possibilities for all the discs you no longer use. Juan Angel Chavez' installation "No Campground Just Water" molds junk wood and other throwaway materials into a somewhat symmetrical form that resembles nothing so much as a space capsule. But it's Ryan Mulligan's "Making Self-Help Easy" exhibit, featuring a case packed with faux trophies (including one for never having watched Brokeback Mountain), that should win another such trophy for an uninspired - and uninspiring - ironic disposition.
