Three and a half stars (R)

Laura Linney, Gabriel Byrne

Australian take on Raymond Carver’s short story (featured in Robert Altman’s Short Cuts) about what happens when a group of men on a fishing trip find a body in the river and elect to finish their fishing weekend before reporting the death. Director Ray Lawrence (Lantana) gets a little preachy at times, but the adaptation is strong. 123 minutes.
