Jazz notes 6/6/07 

• Concerts on the Canal at the Indiana History Center, 450 W. New York St., will feature Jack Gilfoy’s Trio “Tribute to Wes Montgomery” with guest guitarist Sandy Williams on Thursday, June 7 from 6-8 p.m. The IU School of Music at IUPUI presents free Concerts on the Canal.

• Jazz balladeer D.A. Young, with the Ken Fary Trio, plays the Chatterbox Friday, June 8. ORI brings its steel pan jazz sounds to the Chatterbox Saturday, June 9. Music both nights takes place from 10:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m. Cover is $5.

• Friday, June 8, the Jazz Kitchen heats up with Orquesta Bravo’s salsa from 8:30 p.m.-1 a.m. Saturday, June 9, the Jazz Kitchen has vocalist Sara Schabrough performing 6-8 p.m. Singer/keyboardist Jeff Deherdt follows from 9 p.m.-midnight with a live CD recording session. Admission to each performance costs $10.

• Lutz Steakhouse, 3100 Westfield Road in Noblesville, features singer Lonnie Lester Friday, June 8. Dave Lowe performs on keyboards/vocals on Saturday, June 9. Music both nights starts at 7 p.m. and runs to midnight. No cover charge.

• The Convergence trio plays every Friday in June at Eddie Merlot’s, 3645 E. 96 St., from 8-11 p.m. No cover charge.

• Elizabeth Souza of Ipanema brings her trio into Wolfies Waterfront Grill, 20999 Hague Road in Noblesville, every Monday from 7-10 p.m. No cover charge.

• In review: Last Sunday at the Jazz Kitchen, WICR jazz DJ Ralph Adams presented his Jazz Lifetime Achievement Awards to Aletra Hampton, Melvin Rhyne, David Young, Russell Webster and David Allee. The legendary original drummer of the Ramsey Lewis Trio, Red Holt, brought his quartet in from Chicago for an evening of swinging sounds.
