Finally, it's sprin

Finally, it's spring - even though the winter guy doesn't want to leave the scene. You can make the seasonal transition better this week by welcoming the fresh sounds of jazz.
Legendary trumpeter Maynard Ferguson will appear with his band, Big Bop Nouveau Band, at the Jazz Kitchen on Monday, March 29.
Downtown The Chatterbox, 435 Mass. Ave., brings in guitarist Bill Lancton's Quartet Friday, March 26. Singer Tim Brickley's Quintet returns Saturday, March 27. Music both nights runs 10:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. with a cover charge. Jazz on the Avenue, 617 Indiana Ave., fourth floor ballroom of the Madame Walker Theatre Center, will groove to the sax sounds of Greg Bacon Friday, March 26 from 6 to 10 p.m. There is a cover charge. At Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, 45 S. Illinois St., "Sizzling Steaks & Jazz Sundays" will debut the sensational jazz harp of The Jan Aldridge Clark Group March 28 playing 7 to 10 p.m. Fountain Square Theatre, Shelby and Prospect streets, features The Stardusters Band for Friday swing dance March 26 playing 8 to 11:30 p.m. St. Elmo Steakhouse, 115 S. Illinois St. wraps up the month with Olde School playing March 25. The smooth and sultry vocals of Cynthia Layne can be heard Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27. Performances start at 7 p.m. Northside At the Jazz Kitchen, 54th Street and College Avenue, the boss brassy sound and grooves of Seven Pleasures, with new tunes, are on the bandstand Friday, March 26. The party's going on with Dog Talk Saturday, March 27. Music sets both nights are at 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. Monday, March 29 you will fly high when Grammy-winning legendary trumpeter Maynard Ferguson & the Big Bop Nouveau Band ignite the room for two shows at 7 and 9 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. Mark your calendar for a 10-day celebration of the Jazz Kitchen's 10th Anniversary opening with the legendary Hampton Sisters and the world-renowned trombone of The Slide Hampton Quintet on Friday, April 2. Keystone Grille, 8650 Keystone Crossing Blvd., weekly presents Steve Corn on piano and Fred Withrow on bass playing Sunday brunch 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.; and Saturday, 7 to 10 p.m. Smooth jazz and adult contemporary vocalist/keyboardist Lisa Baldwin performs Monday, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.; solo keyboardist Justin can be heard Thursday and Friday, 8 p.m. to midnight. The Jazz Cooker, 925 E. Westfield Blvd., features solo jazz keyboardist Steve Ball Friday and Saturday playing 7 to 10 p.m. Sullivan's Steakhouse, 3316 E. 86th St., Keystone at the Crossing, offers great jazz standards played by Steve Corn on piano, Joe Deal on bass and Bryson Kern on drums Friday, March 26 from 5:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, March 27 Claude Sifferlen is at the piano with the same rhythm section playing 5 to 11 p.m. Northwest Rick's Cafe Boatyard's, 4050 Dandy Trail, weekly lineup has The Art Trio playing Sunday brunch 11:30 to 3:30 p.m. followed by vocalist Tim Brickley from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Brickley returns on Fridays. Bassist Jennifer Kirk Quartet plays Mondays and Wednesday, saxophonist Greg Bacon grooves on Tuesday and pianist Monica Herzig's Acoustic Project plays Thursday and Saturday. Music goes 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Eastside Parrotheads, 5522 E. Fall Creek Pkwy. N. Drive, now features Tom Mullinix & the Naptown Strutters jamming each Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. Sangiovese Restaurant, 4110 E. 82nd St., presents Brenda Williams' fiery vocals with David Meeks' piano and John Huber's bass Wednesday, March 24. The vivid vocals of Cynthia Layne with Reggie Bishop on piano can be heard Thursday, March 25. David Meeks plays solo piano Friday, March 27. Performances are 7 to 10 p.m. each night. Greenfield Hancock Public Library, 700 N. Broadway, has a free "Music With Our Friends" series featuring the dynamic vocalist Mary Moss, with Jack Gilfoy on drums, Rev. Marvin Chandler on keyboards, David Young on sax and Mingo Jones on bass for a CD release party Thursday, March 25. Concert time is 7 p.m. Chuck Workman is the producer/host of the Sunday Morning Jazz Show at 107.9 WTPI.
