Now that the new ye

Now that the new year is in full bloom, and you have started on your long list of resolutions, enrich your goals with jazz and complete your makeover this week with the freshest sounds in Indy.

Downtown The Chatterbox, 435 Mass. Ave., Friday, Jan. 9: Jazz/pop vocalist Tim Brickley's Group performs. The fluent tenor sax stylings of Rob Dixon's Quartet take over Saturday, Jan. 10. Performance times both nights run 10:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. with a cover charge. Jazz on the Avenue, 617 Indiana Ave. in the Madame Walker Theatre Center, fourth floor ballroom, features the bluesy sounds of Chubby Massey on Friday, Jan. 9 performing 6 to 10 p.m. There is a cover charge. Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, 45 S. Illinois St., "Sizzling Steaks & Jazz Sunday" features percussionist Kevin Kaiser's Trio Jan. 11 playing from 7 to 10 p.m. Circle City Bar & Grille, 350 W. Maryland St. in the Marriott, has the vocal stylings of Betheny Dunlap & Neapolitan playing Friday, Jan. 9. Keyboardist Jay Majors & Hookup will play Jan. 10, Jan. 12 and Jan. 13. This is an interesting group to hear, especially for the jazz violin of Crystal Ford. Keyboardist Carl Hines plays Sunday, Jan. 11. Music times each night are 7 to 10 p.m. Nicky Blaine's, 1 N. Meridian St. in the King Cole Building, has a set schedule featuring Cozy with Her Fellas on Mondays; Tuesdays it's a fine blend of voices and rhythm section with The 4 Sexes; and Wednesdays and Thursdays trumpeter the Tom Mullinix Quartet swings away. Music times each night are 9 p.m. to midnight. Dunaways, 351 S. East St., weekly lineup presents jazz/pop vocals by The Tim Brickley Quartet on Thursdays and vocalist Heather Neiddeffer backed by Sean Baker on keyboards. Performances are from 8 to 11 p.m. both nights. Northside The Jazz Kitchen, 54th Street and College Avenue: The energetic electric violin sounds of Cathy Morris & Collage return Friday, Jan. 9 for some fun contemporary jazz. The vocal sounds are sultry, grooving and passionate as Cynthia Layne & Friends return for a get-down night Saturday, Jan. 10. Music sets both nights are at 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. Ruth's Chris Steakhouse North, 96th and Keystone Avenue, features the warm smooth jazz/adult contemporary vocals and keyboards of Lisa Baldwin Wednesday, Jan. 7 from 7 to 10 p.m. Jan. 14 features Conga Jazz. Sullivan's Steakhouse, 3316 E. 96th St. Keystone at the Crossing, showcases jazz pianists during the week. Playing this week are John Spicknall on piano and Joe Deal on bass Wednesday, Jan. 7 from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m.; Steven Jones on piano and Steve Woerner on bass playing interesting jazz Thursday, Jan. 8 from 5:30 to 11 p.m. The trio of Claude Sifferlen on piano, Joe Deal on bass and Chris Pyle on drums performs heated jazz sounds on Friday, Jan. 9 from 5:30 to 11:30 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 10 from 5 to 11 p.m. The Jazz Cooker, 925 E. Westfield Blvd., presents keyboardist Steve Ball every Friday and Saturday playing 7 to 10 p.m. Keystone Grill, 8650 Keystone Crossing Blvd., showcases the dynamic jazz sounds of Greg Corn on piano and Fred Withrow on bass Sundays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 7 to 11 p.m.; and Saturdays, 8 to midnight. Thursdays and Fridays keyboardist Justin plays 8 to midnight. Northeast Sangiovese Restaurant, 4110 E. 82nd St., has a pair of the best voices in town every week. On Wednesdays, Brenda Williams belts, croons and shouts it out backed up by David Meeks on keyboards and Frank Smith on bass. Thursday the mellow, buttery, versatile tones of Shannon Forsell supported by Ray Larman on keyboards can be heard. David Meeks plays solo piano on Fridays. Performances are from 7 to 10 p.m. Ritz Lounge, 3525 N. Shadeland Ave. in the Quality Inn, hosts Tommy "Man With A Horn" Wills with Twosome playing Sundays 4 to 7 p.m. Northwest Rick's Cafe Boatyard, 4050 Dandy Trail, has a new lineup: Tim Brickley's group on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Jennifer Kirk's Quartet plays Thursday, Jan. 8 and Monday, Jan. 12. The grooving sax sounds of Greg Bacon return to Rick's Tuesday, Jan. 13. Music each night goes 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. The Sunday Brunch is back and with jazz by the ART Trio playing 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Chuck Workman is the producer/host of the Sunday Morning Jazz Show at 107.9 WTPI.
