James Bond meets The Bacchae

Evoe! is a cry to Dionysus, the god of wine and ecstasy. And Evoe is the name of a new, site-specific work produced by Susurrus at the east end of Massachusetts Avenue in connection with the final weekend of the Fringe Festival. Involving dance, theater and video, Evoe is directed by Andrew Wiskowski and choreographed by Melli Hoppe. In Evoe, Dionysus is Bond, James Bond — and The Bacchae of Greek tragedy become Bond women who will inhabit the streets and alleys surrounding Mass. Ave.

Evoe will take place Aug. 31-Sept. 3 at 9 p.m. Performances will begin in front of the Fringe headquarters, 872 Massachusetts Ave., and travel to the next block east. The performance is free.
