ISTEP is another step closer to becoming a thing of the past.

House Bill 1395, which would eliminate ISTEP, passed the Senate Tuesday 38-10. The legislation also would create a new panel to give a new recommendation about what would replace ISTEP.

After being heard in the Senate Education and Career Development Committee, the option of rescoring of the 2015 ISTEP was removed from the bill before being sent to the full Senate.

Author of the bill, Rep. Bob Behning, R-Indianapolis, said he will not concur on the changes. That would send the bill to a conference committee where legislators from both chambers can discuss the changes.
