Irish Fest Preview: Brigid's Cross

Four stars

Clarian Health Concerts on the Canal; Indiana History Center; Aug. 9

Brigid’s Cross instantly engaged the audience with their blend of Celtic folk/rock music, including their original music and parodies on oldies. The dynamic trio’s arrangements showcase their prowess on acoustical instruments and three-part harmonies for a program filled with ripping humor and surprises. Even a scorching 95 degrees couldn’t keep Richie Reece from putting down his guitar for a round of step dancing worthy of any pro. Paul Baker on fiddle and Peggy Goonan-Baker on keyboards and bodhran, and special guest appearances by their family members, also got us into the act with clapping to accompany the music, sing-alongs and foot stomping. This Cleveland, Ohio-based band is the best yet teaser for the annual Irish Festival. Brigid’s Cross records on their own Doggus Maximus label.
