The International Violin Competition of Indianapolis (IVCI) manages to carry sports' thrill of victory and agony of defeat into an artistic context in a way that actually enhances the intensity of live performance. The IVCI opens its 2009-2010 season with a special benefit concert on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Indianapolis Civic Theatre on the campus of Marian University (3200 Cold Spring Rd.). Renowned violinist Jaime Laredo will be joined by 1982 Silver medalist Ida Kavafian, violist Steven Tenenbom, cellist Sharon Robinson and the Miami String Quartet in a concert including works by Handel/Halvorsen, Mozart and Ginastera. Tickets are $22 for adults, $17 for seniors and $10 for students. To order call (317) 637-4574 or go to www.violin.org.
