To market, to market Indianapolis shoppers just got another great option for gourmet and organic foods with the opening on Jan. 10 of Sunflower Market at 1021 Broad Ripple Ave. in the heart of Broad Ripple. A subsidiary of Minneapolis-based SUPERVALU, Sunflower Market is the first of its kind in the country, though the company has plans to open more of the stores nationwide. The Broad Ripple store sells a large variety of fresh produce kept cool in its own refrigerated room, organic chocolate, power bars, dairy products, meats, bakery items, wines, vitamins, and herbal supplements at prices they hope will compete not only with similar specialty shops but national grocery chains. According to John Sturm, director of Sunflower Markets, the market, which already shelves such locally produced items as Oliver Winery wines and Traders Point Creamery milk and yogurt drinks, will be offering more products from Hoosier farmsteads in the form of fresh eggs and meats. A grand opening is planned for Jan. 21. Restaurant notes Chef Steven Oakley, owner and chef at Oakleys Bistro, has been selected to compete in the Indiana Pork Producers Association's Taste of Elegance Chef's Competition on Jan. 31, 2006. Chef Oakley and fellow Oakleys Bistro Chef Thomas Smith have taken top honors and represented Indiana in the national competition in this event designed to encourage chefs to create innovative ways to feature pork in white tablecloth entree dishes. Those hoping for another innovative, high-end, or even independent restaurant to move into the old Something Different space, which housed short-lived restaurant Estilo in early 2005, may find bittersweet the news of a sign in the window announcing that Chicago-based Adobo Grill will be opening there this spring. A quick check of the franchise's Web site, www.adobogrill.com, lists locations in Wicker Park and Old Town in Chicago. Menu items at the Chicago restaurants include such dishes as Lomito en Mole Negro Oaxaqueño (grilled pork tenderloin in mole) for $16.95 and Huachinango a la Veracruzana (whole red snapper with olives and capers) for $24.95. Stay tuned for more about this Windy City import. Have a favorite restaurant, a favorite dish, or a favorite waiter/waitress you'd like to rave about?
