Warren Hardin of Columbus, Ind., won the first round of the annual Texas Roadhouse Meat Hero Challenge. The event, held on Aug. 3 at Texas Roadhouse in Southport, Ind., showcased several of the restaurant's local meat cutters, or Meat Heroes. Hardin has worked with the company as a meat cutter for seven years and is currently employed at Texas Roadhouse at 2508 25th St. in Columbus, Ind. He will advance to the second round of the challenge which will be held in September.
Chipotle and Riley
Friday, Aug. 27, Indianapolis will welcome its newest Chipotle Mexican Grill location. The award-winning, quick-service gourmet burrito joint will be dishing up their critically acclaimed, 20-ounce, gourmet burritos and tacos at 4625 E. 96th St. at Gray Road. The restaurant made its debut in Indy with two other locations in late July at 86th Street and on Keystone Way in Carmel.
To help celebrate the 96th Street opening, Chipotle will hold a fund-raiser Aug. 26, 4-9 p.m. to benefit Riley Hospital for Children. For $5, guests will receive their choice of a giant 20-ounce burrito, three tacos or lo-carb bol and a soft drink. All receipts at the door will go directly to the children's hospital.
Indiana wines, Victorian opulence
A wine-tasting and concert will be held at the Historic Landmarks Foundation's Morris-Butler House, 1204 N. Park Ave., Saturday, Aug. 27, 7-9 p.m. Representatives from Indiana's Easley Winery will provide wines for tasting and present a program on winemaking. Then, enjoy a concert of 19th century music performed by flutist Barbara Kallaur. Cost is $30 per person ($28 per Historic Landmarks member), and reservations are required.
