Dining Out for Life is a signature annual event of the Damien Center. It joins nearly 40 local restaurants and the Indianapolis community for a day to raise money to fight HIV/AIDS and improve educational awareness. This year, the Fox 59/WB 4 Community Fund, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, joins the Damien Center to help promote and support the event. A complete list of participating restaurants can be found on the Dining Out for Life link at www.damien.org. Each Dining Out for Life community participant will receive a complimentary voucher to an Indianapolis Opera performance of their choice. By simply asking Hoosiers to dine out on Thursday, April 29, the Damien Center and the Fox 59/WB 4 Community Fund have established a goal to raise $65,000 from restaurants and cafes, patron contributions and event sponsors. Money raised from the event will be used to increase prevention services and education, and lessen the incidence of hunger, unemployment and homelessness for those in our community impacted by HIV/AIDS.
Auction and wine gala
St. Mary's Child Center will host its 11th Annual Spring Auction and Wine Gala on Friday, April 30. This year's event is sponsored by Eastgate/Westgate Chrysler Jeep and will be held at the Scottish Rite Cathedral, 650 N. Meridian St. in downtown Indianapolis. All proceeds will benefit St. Mary's Child Center.
The Spring Auction and Wine Gala promises fabulous food and wine and enviable auction items. It will feature more than 400 live and silent auction items, which were generously donated by local businesses and approximately 220 of the organization's "Godparents." One of the highlights of this year's event will be the auction of more than 150 bottles of extraordinary wine from some of the world's premier vineyards, offered both individually and as part of select groupings. Notable auction block items include a bottle of 1986 Opus One, a 1957 Chevy Bel Air, pure-bred puppies, limited edition artwork, jewelry, collectables, suite tickets to major sporting events, autographed sports memorabilia, gift certificates to restaurants, get-away packages and much, much more.
The Spring Auction is St. Mary's single largest fund-raiser each year. Last year's auction attracted more than 500 people and raised over $180,000 to support the organization's operating costs. This event is an opportunity to help the organization's 200 at-risk children. Contributions help St. Mary's continue to provide the services these children need for a successful future.
The auction will run from 7 p.m. until midnight. Tickets cost $75 per person, $125 per couple. Admission includes a buffet dinner provided by Thomas Caterers of Distinction, open bar and silent and live auctions. Casual business attire is recommended. For more information about specific auction items or to purchase tickets, call St. Mary's Child Center at 317-635-1491 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
