Writers' Center course explo

Writers' Center course explores the language of food The Writers' Center of Indiana is offering "The Language of Food," a five-week class that explores food writing in its many forms. The class will meet on five Thursday evenings beginning July 31, from 7 to 9 p.m., and will include both classroom work and excursions to local restaurants to find inspiration. The class will be held at the Writers' Center, 812 E. 67th St. in Broad Ripple. The instructor is poet, food writer and IUPUI creative writing instructor Terry Kirts. Dunaway's and Robert Mondavi winemaker dinner Join winemaker Scott Kelly from the La Famiglia Winery in Oakville, Calif., on Thursday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m. for a six-course dinner featuring wines from the Mondavi family. Circle City Bar & Grille Mother's Day brunch Sunday, May 11 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The brunch will feature several buffet selections, including a breakfast buffet, chilled buffet, carving station, entree station and dessert buffet. Featured menu items include: mustard- and sage-glazed pork loin stuffed with a sun-dried apple and pecan compote; pesto-larded turkey breast with port wine demi glace; wine-braised beef brisket with soft polenta and mushroom ragout; pan-seared chicken breast with braised tomato and fennel fondue served over pearl pasta risotto; baked sole served with a lobster and basil ragout; grilled vegetable and goat cheese lasagna. The cost for the buffet is $29.95 for adults, $25.95 for seniors and $12.95 for children ages 5 to 12. Price does not include tax or gratuity. Complimentary valet parking is available. A special children's menu will also be available. Circle City Bar & Grille is located at 350 W. Maryland St., inside the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown. Wine tasting at Smokey Joe's Smokey Joe's Barbecue in Greenwood will be hosting the first of a monthly series of wine tastings on Thursday, May 15. The first tasting will feature the wines of Chile and Argentina (see Cork Dork) and will be presented by NUVO's own . The tasting will run from 6:30 to approximately 8 p.m., and will cost $15 per person. For reservations, please call 884-4870.
