The official entry list for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500
presented by PennGrade Motor Oil has been released.
The list features six former champions looking to reclaim past glory. Helio Castroneves, a three-time winner of the race looks to join team spotter Rick Mears on the list of four-time winners. Juan Pablo Montoya and Scott Dixon both look to become just the eighth driver to win the prestigious race for a third time. Tony Kanaan, Ryan Hunter-Reay, and 1996 race winner Buddy Lazier look to win their second Indy 500.
This year’s race will see five rookies with various levels of experience joining the field for the first time. Alexander Rossi and Max Chilton both join the race with backgrounds in Formula One. Rossi, who is racing for Andretti/ Herta also serves as a reserve driver for Manor Racing in Formula One. 2015 Indy Lights Champion Spencer Pigot joins the field for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. Stefan Wilson, younger brother to the late Justin Wilson also makes his first entry to the list.
Matt Brabham, from the Brabham racing family joins the list as well. Matt is the son of 10-time Indy 500 driver Geoff Brabham. He is the grandson of 3-time Formula One World Champion Sir Jack Brabham.
Noblesville native Conor Daly joins the field with a full time ride with Dale Coyne Racing. He looks to improve on a disappointing, shortened run from his rookie race last year. Daly’s car caught fire on the parade lap of last year’s race.
Pippa Mann will be driving the Susan G. Komen car for Dale Coyne Racing as this year’s lone female entrant. This could change as the Grace Autosport team is still trying to field an entry into this year’s race.
