Indianapolis studio drummer rises from hurricane devestation to win Grammy

Dylan Wissing is a studio drummer from Bloomington who graduated from IU School of Music. He drummed in Johnny Socko before moving to Hoboken, New Jersey to eventually build his own studio. Wissing has recorded tracks for artists such as Fabolous ("So NY"), Rick Ross ("I Love My Bitches"), Elizabeth Chan of Morgan Spurlocks' Failure Club, and twelve-time Grammy winning producer Ken Lewis.

He had been recording drums for Kanye West, Jay-Z, Rick Ross, and the television show Glee when Hurricane Irene hit in 2011. Wissing's studio, Triple Collossal Studios, was completely flooded, destroying instruments, recordings, equipment, everything. Even drums he saved were ruined either by mold, or bleach when he tried to kill the mold. Despite the humungous loss, Wissing soldiered on and wisely rebuilt his studio on the second floor of a factory from the late 1800's.

When Superstorm Sandy ravaged the east coast in late 2012, Wissing's decision to relocate his studio to higher ground proved to be fortuitous, as Triple Collassal Studios was left mostly unscathed. Having survived two hurricanes, Dylan Wissing continues to provide drum tracks to major label producers and independent artists through his online business, Indie Studio Drummer.

Wissing has received Grammy nominations this year and last, but his latest nomination was the one that netted him the coveted award. The nomination was for his drumming on Drake's Take Care. He previously achieved platinum certification for his work on Kanye West's and Jay-Z's Watch the Throne. Another amazing achievement recently for Wissing was playing drums on the title track of Alicia Keys's latest release, Girl on Fire, which reached #1 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums.
