The Indianapolis Songwriters Café, a roundtable bringing together three local songwriters for a couple hours of storytelling, is in its fourth month. Host Cliff Snyder is “grateful for the response. We’ve had well-attended shows and the writers love playing for an attentive audience.
“I was so glad when Krista Detor got in touch with me about playing the show,” Snyder continues. “Her music really blows me away and we’re lucky to have an artist like her right in Indiana. She tours consistently, including Europe. She recently did a project, Wilderness Plots, with Carrie Newcomer, Tim Grimm and Tom Roznowski. She was just featured on NPR. I think she’s a great inspiration for local performing writers.”
Gideon Wainwright has been part of the band Bob’s Liquor Lounge as a guitar player. “Wainwright is one of my personal favorites,” Snyder declared. “He’s got the grit and believability you need to write a song. He’s got a great knack for popping out these incredibly infectious songs.”
Bobbie Lancaster is one of the hostesses of the Bloomington Songwriters Showcase. “All of her hard work there alone buys a lot of points in my book — and she puts on one heck of a show,” Snyder said. She was a past winner in the Masterpiece in a Day competition. Musicians are randomly paired up on the Fountain Square event and spend the day writing a song.
