Richard Wagner's opera, Das Rheingold
, or "The Rhine Gold," gets its first Indianapolis Opera performance with support from Maestro Mario Venzago and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra at Butler University's Clowes Hall May 15 at 8 p.m. and again May 17 at 2 p.m.
An epic tale based on German mythology, this performance will be semi-staged, with the ISO on stage and singers performing from the raised and lowered pit. Sung in German with English super-titles by artists including Greer Grimsley and Elizabeth Byrne, the performance runs approximately two and a half hours with one 20-minute intermission.
