Morning commuters will not be surprised by the amount of traffic on Friday, May 18, but they might find the type of traffic a little more environment-friendly. On Friday, BikeIndy will be hosting Indianapolis Bike to Work Day to celebrate the grand opening of five new Indiana BikePort bicycle parking facilities downtown.
Beginning at various locations Friday morning, eight groups of commuters will bike to the southwest corner of Monument Circle between 7:45-8:15 a.m. Breakfast on the Circle will greet the commuters with free food provided by the South Bend Chocolate Company. Following breakfast, a press conference will be held from 8-8:45 a.m. to recognize participants, feature guests such as Deputy Mayor Steve Campbell and CIBA representatives, and reveal new plans to encourage bicycling.
Commuters can also look forward to door prizes and awards at the event, including the Corporate Challenge award, which rewards the employer with the most registered attendees with a 10-day shopping spree for all employees at Bicycle Garage Indy.
A bike ride around downtown and tours of the BikePort will begin around noon.
