Jazz Chuck Workman The Cool Chilies play the Jazz Kitchen Saturday, April 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The second edition of the successful “Hot Licks Cool Chicks” concert will take place Friday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Indiana History Center’s Basile Theater. The concert is part of the Sounds of Indiana Series and is produced by Mark Szobody, IHC director of special events. This year’s lineup of top-flight women performers will feature an instrumental section headed by jazz pianist/educator Monika Herzig and bassist Jennifer Kirk. The vocalists include Jennie DeVoe, Paula Owen, Shannon Forsell, Cynthia Layne and Janiece Jaffe in solo and ensemble performances. For the second year, I will have the honor of MCing this gathering of extraordinary women performers. Tickets for “Hot Licks Cool Chicks” are $17, $13.50 for IHC members and $10 for students. Jazz appreciation month (JAM) • Local jazz poet/visual artist Bam Miller will perform a free “Let’s Do Lunch” concert Wednesday, April 19 at the Artsgarden from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. honoring Jazz Appreciation Month.
